Diagnosis
Material condition, significance, use and risk guide an appropriate intervention.
Craft Conservator is a practitioner or conservation specialist whose work contributes to the continuity of craft capability through the conservation, restoration, repair, documentation, practice or transmission of craft knowledge, skills, processes and tangible manifestations.

The field includes specialist knowledge across stone, timber, metal, plaster, glass, textiles, books, objects, instruments, machinery and long-lived products. It also includes the diagnostic judgement required to decide when and how to intervene.
The term sits within the wider craft ecosystem and does not displace established professional conservation-restoration qualifications, accreditation or occupational titles. Mapping connects practitioners and successors with workshop access, materials, equipment, collections and future demand for care.
