Within the proposed registry, each verified Craft Practitioner receives a Unique Provenance Identifier. The Maker’s Mark is the practitioner-facing expression of that identifier when it is applied to, or securely associated with, a product, its packaging, accompanying documentation or provenance record.

The Mapping report proposes a verified national practitioner registry. The current CWA application is the operational sector-developed pathway: it records identity, business or trading name, place, practice, production method, material origin and chain-of-custody declarations.
The current CWA process reviews the applicant’s declaration and supporting documentation against its Code of Practice; it is a documentation assessment rather than a physical audit. The national statutory and independent verification architecture proposed in the report remains a separate future framework.
